Country of Origin: Australia
A transgender filmmaker investigates Australia’s lack of funded trans healthcare, and how this prevents others from accessing the care that saved his own life.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Kai (he/him) is a Meanjin/Brisbane based filmmaker who is passionate about bringing the stories and experiences of underrepresented people to the screen. As a queer, transgender man himself, Kai is specifically interested in merging the creative arts with activism, using storytelling to draw attention to the unique issues faced by minority groups—this concept inspired him
to begin developing Uncovered Lives. “This topic is very close to my heart as it affects both me and many of my loved ones, and as a filmmaker this is something I know I can do to help my community.” Uncovered Lives is the start of what Kai hopes will be a long career in film, focusing on directing, editing, and screenwriting.
